Bhaktivedanta Book Trust was established in 1972 by Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupāda as a tool to manage the copyright of all texts published by Śrīla Prabhupāda.

The main functions of the BBT are publishing and republishing books, managing all book publishing and distribution activities, processing copyrights, and distributing funds from the ISKCON Temple Community Development Fund.

The Bhaktivedanta Book Trust is the sole copyright owner of all books written by Srila Prabhupāda (under a trust deed). Since the trust is irrevocable, therefore, as long as the TRUST exists (there are legally appointed trustees), international laws on the transfer of copyright after 40 years, to the relatives of the author or to the public, do not apply. An irrevocable trust has the power of a posthumous will that cannot be revoked!The only possibility under the trust deed in the event of the termination of the trust, copyright is transferred only to the sole Beneficiary (ISKCON registered in 1966 in New York).
